: Hey, I'm Josh. I'm 21. I'm a screenwriter living in Virginia Beach, VA. I'm mentored by Nick Kazan and Robin Swicord. I'm planning on moving to LA sometime this summer.
Hi Josh. You use 'I' too much.
: I wrote a script this spring that has attracted the interest of an established producer. She has taken me under her wing and led me through rewrites. She wants to produce the film. The rewrites are done and this month she is sending the script to some very big directors.
: At this point, I haven't signed shit, nor have I seen shit in terms of contracts, etc.
First and foremost, did you register the script with the WGA? Did you put the copyright symbol or write the word copyright on the script? Those are both safety nets, but it's not as if you'd be without recourse if they stole your script. For future reference though, registering is a pretty good idea, and it's not too expensive ($20 or so).
: At this point, where she's sending my material out as the producer, should anything be signed, etc.
It sure would be good for you if there was some kind of contract. If you're truly concerned, contact an attorney and lay out the specifics of your dealings.
: Just want to make sure I don't get fucked.
How about you make your concerns known, albeit politically, with said producer. Ultimately, your entire situation comes down to you and her.
Always,
