As it stands, I didn't even really complete my thought. Mostly for fear of being a lame first time poster blah blah blah...
But really, I was like 10 jahre alt when Bill Nye The Science Guy first appeared on (dang, it was the Seattle version of Saturday Night Live..I forget its title it was like Live..somthing...Night or Seattle Night Live...oh well) anyways he was a guest everyweek, then he went big... now I think Disney owns him. Anyways, the idea of having a grown up documentary of the same vein is quite interesting. I mean, there really is not a better way to teach than with humor, (shock works quite well, and maybe for the same albiet opposite reason) I am not even saying it needs to be a Jay & Silent Bob thing either, just the wit of a good writer, written into non-fiction is just a great way to get across a particular subject matter. I think Kevin has got the right kind of wit.
The possibilities are endless, (well, Ill bet there is an end to them...) for the ways to explore a subject. I really liked how CLerks the Cartoon was so random and jumped around. This tells me that the guy can write in a manner that includes far reaching mental jumps (not just verbally but visually too), which is probably necassary in the educational realm (i am no teacher, heck, not even a student...just a 12 grade ed, and a education from the various roadside museums across the nation...my being 22 and pretty well traveled...dang, i just can't keep my bio out of these things...)
Anyways, the nature of the cartoon lends itself well to the medium. I just remember laughing so hard at the Micheal Richards Drivers Ed video, and now other people are like "wow, I wish I had drivers Ed from YOUR high school" I mean, besides the cool train wreck collisions and various accident films, what do YOU remember from driver's ed? Well I remember learning parrallel parking from Micheal Richards. So there.
There was a scene from the Robin Williams documentary that had Robin with a cow on a beach, he was standing in the ocean and was pulling on a rope attatched to the cows neck trying to pull or coerce the cow into the water with him. The cow was dead-set against getting even near the water. He was mentioning how many millions of years it took for dolphins to evolve into cows...(or something like that...) and then said "so you can see why it took so long." And I dunno, it was cute...heck at the time it was quite funny... but i'll be good gosh darned if Kevin wouldnt be way funnier, and I think creatively it would be a kick in the pants.
blah blah blah

: You know, that ain't a bad idea. BELIEVE ME.... as a high school student, we need interesting stuff in class or we are going to be the stupidest generation to date. You in a documentary, even if not meant to be funny, would be a hell of a lot more interesting than a documentary narrated by some guy with a deep voiced monotone.
: Please Kevin, help your high school fans! You alone have the power.......
: Snootchie nootchies!
: : Hey Kevin, I am a new....wait, who cares about my bio, lemme try again...
: : I was thinking about the different types of media that View Askew has dabbled in the other day (i think I was in the shower..crap I am doing it again...)
: :
: : In high school I remember quite well two educational videos I saw. One was a Documentary on Dolphins, starring Robin Williams. It was nuts. I don't think they could have used a better way to teach us, than to have a downright funny documentrary as the legitamate educational tool. I mean it was all discovery channel info, laced with comedy to make it watchable.
: :
: : Then there was a drivers Ed video I watched starring Micheal Ricahrds. Again same thing.
: : Kev, this would be a really neat way (gee wally...) this could be a great way to write non-fiction, I don't know if you even like writing non-fiction, but heck, what a rare market. I mean imagine how much more fun education could be if it starred Jay and Silent Bob (ok, there is at least ONE required class we are all thinking of that would be hilarious) but even history, it would be great to have the Kevin Smith wit laced into educational programs. I dunno, just an idea, it seems like a fellow like you likes to tackle a variety of mediums, this one could do a lot of good, and still be a royal kick in the pants.
: :
: : Of course this would do great for sales...get Kevin into the schools and the cult gets bigger for sure...
: :
: : Anyways, this wasn't suppose to be an essay, but rather a simple statement:
: : "Hey Kev, try documentaries, they are swell!"
