Of course, I couldn't possibly know what it's like to have to deal with people pressing for information or access all the time. I'm certain it's frustrating and whoever works there has every right to feel that way. I'm just saying that it would suck if people thought they couldn't ask innocent, albeit annoyingly naive, questions of people without getting smacked. Retail's not a fantastic job for people who can't suck it up and put on that just-ate-a-shitpile smile every now and again.
That's not to say there's any need for anyone to kow-tow to stupidity. It's certainly not up to me to tell anyone how to run their business.
: I also was never a fanboy and I'm not sure what you mean by that comment.
Sorry, 'twas a figure of speech. To clarify, at some point in your life you were probably a devoted fan of something, be it a person or a style of music or whatever, and you might have been obsessed enough to act retarded over it...if not, well I congratulate you Mr. Johnson, for somehow you managed to do what no other human being alive has done -- time warp past the entire 80's decade with stylish hairdo intact.
: I don't believe most people come to the store with the hope they're going
: to do anything other than meet Kevin and Jason. My feeling is, if they're
: there great. But Kevin is a writer and director with a wife and child, do
: you really think for a second he has nothing better to do than hang around
: the store all day waiting for fans? It's so unrealistic it borders on
: stupidity.
I agree, caveat emptor.
: 99% of the people are totally cool and I didn't mean to make it sound like
: everyone who walks through the door is a thorn in the proverbial side. I
: think it's great that people are into it BUT I would be lying if I were to
: say it isn't tiresome if not defeating at times to answer the same
: questions day in-day out. That was my point.
Hmmm...if I was in that position, I'd just explain to people in a friendly fashion that I only work at the comic store, and I get asked that question every day, could we talk about something else like say comics? I imagine most people just go to the Stash for a little happy interaction. Smiles cost nothing. But again, you know, how could I possibly know what the situation's like? There is no need to defend yourself or Walter.
: I don't think you should have to find another line of work because people
: don't have the ability to discern the proper forum for questions. Walter
: received call after call from people wanting to know why ABC cancelled the
: show. He is trying to operate a retail store. He doesn't have the time nor
: the inclination to entertain with a shit eating grin info that can be found
: elsewhere.
So tell 'em to fuck off, Walter. Seriously, if anybody who walks in the store or calls up is just so irritatingly asinine that it actually makes you *angry*, just ruins your day, chuck 'em out. You got the other 99% to rely on, right?
: Would you call Planet Hollywood to find out why Stallone hasn't
: made a movie in some time? Or become belligerant when Naomi Cambell isn't
: your busgirl at the Models Cafe?
*I* wouldn't, but then I wouldn't go to the Stash planning on a blunt session with Mewes either. I am absolutely sure that people do call those places. Ask them sometime if you're ever there.
I'm not trying to pick on you, I just have a strange sense of sympathy for anyone possessed and deluded enough to track down a man's business in hopes of -- what? Possibly meeting their idol? A sense of validation? That people consider any store their version of a religious oasis is kind of sad. I'm sorry you have to deal with that disturbed-ego shit but I'm sorrier for those who wallow in it.
: : I love you anyway man, even though your propensity for stripping in front
: of hordes of unseen strangers is a bit...ooohh...hmmm...intriguing.
: Thank you, I aim to please.
Don't toy with my affections.
