Has Randal's character really "disintegrated"?
I mean, I don't see that much change in the man. Sure, we're seeing more examples of his behavior but it's still just Randal.("he's a Ber-Zerk-Er")

Judging by how everyone in Red Bank seems to react to him, I'd say this is his normal setting and the behavior that he displayed in Clerks is some what of a departure for the man.
I'm not insinuating that he's nothing more than the "Nasty-Ass-Clerk" persona that he shows, just that these flashes of insight and caring are somewhat few and far between. At least on the surface.
The events in Clerks are an exception, where Randal has to abandon part of that mask for his friend's best intrest. (as Randal sees it) And even when trying to help or guide Dante he buries it in cynicism. Take it from a cynical bastard, you don't get this way unless you let shit get to you.

So is Randal "a bright kid who'd grown entirely too jaded"? Sure. Does he want to let that show? Fuck No. But don't be fooled, the man's watching out for his friends, and somewhere deep down in that dank Grinchlike soul he even cares.

Just a little.

Fuck, it's late. Gonna be skipping town for a couple of days so when the "Big Annoucement" hits in the trades tomorrow, make sure you post lots of "HOLY SHIT! I CAN"T BELIEVE IT!" for me. >=)

JoKor Out.
