: Don't want to be accused of hopping on a bandwagon, here, but I'd just like to pen a little note to Vincent, if I may... : If there is an "undercurrent" of resentment at you, it is most probably made up of folks whose admiration you would not desire. Angry fanboys, jealous and creepy, many of whom spend most of their time in groups of likeminded misanthropic circles, going over the litany of "shit they hate." Among that list: : Leonardo DiCaprio : Keanu Reeves : ABC : The X-Men Movie : Whoever is currently drawing CABLE : Peter David : Anything Vaguely Successful or popular : The point is, all these things are really just the variable "X"; it is the process of bitching, griping, hating, and thereby somehow placing themselves "above" in the process, that is the dynamic at work. Because your name shows up in red here, and because a)you seem to know your shit about the more arcane aspects of aspects and camera lenses, and b)you are quick with the put down when you think it deserved, you are added to that "LET X=[Name]" list. Feel proud. YOu are not a sucess until you have a hate club to match your fan club. : All that said, you must understand that the bizarre weight many of these kids place on a "red" name... It, to them, like a badge or uniform, denotes station and standing. Creepy, if you ask me, but that's the way it seems to be. And you must know, there is a binary division of what the young, angry & geeky feel toward those they percieve as having a "higher station" than themselves: Eithewr slavish love and devotion, or complete scorn and hatred. : How many times have you seen the most "hardcore" Kevin-lover turn on a dime and denounce him for an imagined slight (DVD not on time, not ever responding to a post, whatever)? The entire drama exists soley in their own heads. It is a way to trump themselves up, and feel important by virtue of making a bid for "equal power" (in their eyes) by fighting someone who they feel "is above them." The mouse that roared, and all. : I ain't about to stroke your ego (or manlihood, for that matter) and tell you how "YOU DA MAN!" or some such drivel. That's just the same principle at work, on the opposite end of the continuum. : I will say this- The View Askew MALLRTATS DVD is perhaps the best and most ambitious, robust and well-executed in my collection. (Fight Club is great, mind you, but does not posess the exuberance or enthusiasm evident in the production of 'Rats.)You have much to be proud of. I've read through the VA site to see that Kevin & crew have a very high opinion of you, and your work ethic. Thats valuable, not the "polling numbers" from a bunch of little kids with AOL accounts and attitudes. : Further, while I differ many times in my opinions (--cough, cough, GLADIATIOR, cough, cough--), I find you to be well spoken in your opinions when you voice them, and always succint and helpful whenever someone asks a technical question that you can give them a hand with. : Do you sometimes "post angry?" Or snap at someone? Sure. What "regular poster" does not? However, I submit that it is the undue "authority" that many are willing to give to ANYONE with a red-letter name that causes each of your "snippy" incidents to be logged, filed, and stored for further use, and ammased as "evidence" for your "conviction" as a "condescending prick." Consider the source, Vincent. Swinging into topic-land, it's the same hatred the FANBOY voiced at Holden to Banky in the last scene of AMY. : Anyway, buck up, camper.
