About ten or so years back, I used to play this game name of Zillion on my Sega Master System. Tough game. It had over a hundred levels and you had to gather up a bunch of specific items in order to complete it. So playing it would take an eternity and, since I didn't want to shut it off and lose everything I had accomplished thus far, I was forced to pause it when the time came to hit the hay and resume gaming the following morning. Did it quite often, actually, and never had any technical problems or fires or what have you.

So pausing video games overnight CAN BE DONE. I can testify to that fact. Though I'd imagine that it's probably not a very good idea.
