This is for those of you out there interested in independent films and specifically the View Askew team:

This year marks the fourth anniversary of the Freaky Film Festival here is Champaign, IL (home of the University of Illinois, although the fest is not affiliated with the school). Filmmakers in the central Illinois area and beyond submit their work to be shown over a few choice days in the fall of each year. The dates for the fest this year are October 27 through November 1st. In order to submit an application, please head to the following site: www.freakyfilms.com. (deadline is August 1, if the link is not working, either try again later or email me)

A friend of mine by the name of Jason helps out with the fest as well as producing his own independent film zine called MicroFilm. (he--among other things--designed last year's program cover, a spoof of Blair Witch to pay tribute to the plethera of spoofs submitted...if you were lucky enough to see a copy of the cover, you own a few ghastly photos of me as well) The latest issue of MicroFilm will feature an article on the film A Better Place, which is a View Askew related picture (according to the press releases that have been sent out to the few & proud online MicroFilm contacts).

This post is a VERY informal and poorly written invitation that is being extended to the View Askew team and anyone else in the area to come check out the fest...or even better, to submit a film for screening. In the past, special screenings have occurred for films of different stature, as well as panel discussion. The most memorable occurrance of this movie/discussion package occurred during the first FFF, when Bruce Campbell screened the film Running Time. No matter what, the fest is always a good time to be had by all.

So all I ask is to give it some thought, let the idea simmer on the back burner for a bit. I am personally an obnoxiously huge Kevin Smith fan, as are many other people in the area, so I took it upon myself to send the word out. In doing so, I hope I have not offended, if so, I do apologize. At any rate, congrats on Fletch.
