- although I understand 20th Century Fox forced Clive Barker to really drastically cut down and alter the film. I remember how they dumped it into theaters with little/no advertising, and then, shock of shocks, the film started getting good reviews (I believe at least one review compared it to STAR WARS in how it created it's own unique mythology), and they tried to slavage it during week two but then it was too late. Their bad.
I'd love to see Barker get a chance to put his director's cut back together for a DVD release. Since Fox seems to be getting bebind DVD now, maybe it could happen (I'd also love to see Cronenberg's THE FLY with commentary and some of the legendary "deleted scenes" as an added bonus- I know Cronenberg cut these scenes [one in which Seth crosses a monkey with another animal in the pod and then gets attacked by the resulting mutation, and the infamous "butterfly baby" epilogue in which Geena Davis gives birth to Brundle's baby] of his own accord, but it'd be cool to see them out-of-context at least in a deleted scenes section).
