While I'm not saying Mike couldn't have thrown in some references, Office Space is older than Clerks (methinks, anyway.). You see, Office Space first showed up in animated form on SNL. Back before Beavis and Butthead. Alot of the scenes from the movie are just taken straight from the cartoons ("I'm going to burn the building down," sticks out most prominently).

And there you have it.
