Call me a fool, but using personal info in your work is a damn good idea. I think more people will be able to relate to it.. and if they dont they'll find it pretty fuckin funny (all depending on the circumstances)
When the movie I'm writing is finished, I'm expecting to get my ass kicked, sued, maybe lose some (asshole) friends and probably get sent right to the eternal abyss of which is hell. I'm seriously looking forward to it. It's the relation to everyday (or not so everyday) life that makes movies funny in my opinion, also, giving the characters lines that people are just too damn wussy to say (when you KNOW they're thinking it) is the best and funniest shit I've ever heard/written. A great tip for you is to get a tape recorder and record things that people talk about normally, let's say having a convo while at coffee.. you have to get their permission, of course, but the results are kick ass.
