Here is my say so...
1) X-Men
2) Blade
3) Superman 2
4) Batman Mask Of The Phantasm
5) Batman (Keaton)
I also like Mallrats, but since it was not based on a comic property, but was a movie about comic fans, I left it off...
On to my rants...
Keaton as Batman ruled in #1... but he got squashed in #2 as we all know...
Nicholson was great as a "re-visioned" gangster joker, but I agree with the point the he was not very true to the comic book Joker we all know and love... but that goes for pretty much all the villians in the Bat Flix... Riddler was more like a clown than a mastermind, Bane was a joke, Mr. Freeze was the most unconvincing scientific mind I have ever seen... Penguin belonged in an X-Men title... not Batman... the list could go on...
Here is what I would do if I were WB... I would launch 3 Batman Film Franchises...
1) Batman Year One staring the dude who plays Angel who's name escapes me at the moment... we all know what this would be about... a dark look at the early days of Batman...focusing more on real crime elements than mega bad guys... though the Joker could play in here... I would get a director who is used to dealing in gritty crime story's and dark, emotional characters...
If done correctly, this could launch a franchise of early days batman flix...
2)Next I would do a Dark Knight returns type of film focusing on a seasoned, mature, older bats... I would get someone like Russell Crowe, Mel Gibson, or even Michael Keaton back to play the Dark Knight... make this one a hardened story... show his conflict... he has been batman for years... he is not in the best shape (not that he is not fit, but he has been injured many times and it is begining to catch up with him)... and bring back the Joker for this one, and I would combine elements of Arkham Asylam and Dark Knight Returns to make this one hell of a dark, gritty batman tale... in this film, I would include a cameo of whatever actor would portray Batman Beyond... and would end them movie with Batman snagging a narrow victory and questioning how much longer he can do this... I would also kill off a major supporting character... (gordon or kyle)
3) then, I would do a Batman Beyond film, much like the cartoon, the setting would be more futuristic... they filming style borrowing some from The Matrix... I would get who played Batman in the Dark Knight movie (preferably Crowe cause he proved he could play older in the Insider) to return to portray the older Bruce Wayne... and we would introduce the world to a new Franchise in Batman Beyond movies... as for who to play Batman Beyond?? Well, that I would have to do some research on... I'd like to hear suggestions...
But you see, if each film was handled properly, you could go from here and make sequels for each era in Batman's rich history...
