: I thought this line of thought has been universally ridiculed enough to stop it forever; calling XYX movie a "rip off" of a VA movie..
I don't remember calling Office Space a "rip off" of a VA movie. I enjoy it as a wholly original movie, which I saw in secondary release. I was just wondering if it was a nod to Clerks. Similar to "No ticket" in Dogma, for example. I don't consider that "ripping off," I consider it a pop reference, or an allusion. I would say Wes Craven is a fan of Kevin's work as Kevin is a fan of Star Wars. I don't think I need to spell out the Askewness in Scream. I simply asked if Mike Judge was similarly a fan of Kevin's work. It's not in the summaries, and I haven't seen it, so I thought I would ask. I thought that's one thing this board was meant for.
: OFFICE SPACE was a wholly original, very funny movie that owed nothing to no one, and, while flopping due to poor marketing in the theater, has found a lot of support and gained almost "cult" status in the video market...
: WAITAMINIIT! That's MALLRAT's claim to fame! Those thieving FUCKS!
: Here's my one observation on 37, and numerology in general. Having an interest in occult stuff, I've noticed an odd quirk of numerology... Any two digit number you focus on will seem to "come up" all the time. If it is "23" that you decide is important, you'll see 23s EVERYWHERE, and permutations of 23, enogh to convince yourself that something is planned. But the thing is, if you decided "41" was your "magic number," you'd see *that* all over the place as well.
: I think it speaks more to sensitising yourself to note when this number comes up in everyday life, and noticing it, more than anything else. We are constantly barraged with millions of numbers all over the place, but we, for the most part, ignore them. By attrition alone, "37" will pop up a lot, as long as you look for it.
Your opinion is duly noted. I am aware of this phenomenon, but it is also possible that Mike Judge liked Clerks, and this was his way of saying so. Again, this is why I posted, not to say Office Space is a rip off. Thank you for weighing in with your thoughts. Your sarcasm and belittling attitude towards an innocent question don't really bother me, but keep them in mind if you want to take the moral high ground in an argument against flamers.
Oh, and one more thing, is attrition the word you want to use?
It means a gradual wearing down, or reduction. The number of soldiers in an Army decreases in a war due to attrition. So if I gradually lessen the number of media I view, I will see 37 more often? I realize what you were trying to say, and attrition may work - but it is not the best fit.
The above paragraph is unnecessary, and likely irritating to you. It's point is this: I think easing up on the intellectual posing and condescension will make the board a slightly happier place.
