If you are using a G4 to run Pro Tools you must have only 1 DSP farm, at most. This leads me back to the tape question? But I digress.
My thought is that it is a software problem much like Apple's DVD player has on the G4s.
Here is the fix for the DVD synch problem.
get Mac OS 9.0.4 and DVD Player 2.2 from Apples web site. Then Download the latest version of Quicktime 4.whatever. All this stuff has files that fix Apples OS 9 troubles.
: First off, I'm no expert. I did use Premire 5.1 and ProTools for a year or two doing video game development and here is what I learned.
: Premire 5.1 was buggy as hell in the worst places, places you didn't notice till it was too late. For instance, when I did a cut or a cross fade on two audio tracks I would get a perfect little pop at the edit point. A perfect digital plateau in the wav form. I also had synch problems, but not as noticable as yours.
: Premire does have a bug fix download (5.12 or something like that) It fixed the audio edit problem at least.
: Second, you say he digitized a tape?! What kind of tape? Really, a tape, or did you mean a track? If it really was a tape, Digi Beta or what ever, how did you get it from the tape to ProTools? ADAT?
: Anyway I forwarded the question to a buddy who is a Pro at this shit.
: CHAD
: P.S. I'm in N.Y. and would be willing to help out via phone or in person or whatever. Consider it pay back for all the great movies.
: : Okay, so we're here in the VA offices and we're having some sync
: : problems with Scott's Pro-Tools system. Earlier today, Phil Benson
: : from Skywalker digitized a tape using Adobe Premiere 5.1, and for
: : whatever reason, we've been unable to get the soundtrack to the
: : video sync up on the Pro-Tools. The sound is at 48K at 29.97 with
: : pull-down checked on- the weird thing is, when we scrub the track
: : using shuttle mode or scrub or if you locate any footage, the video
: : window burn and the ProTools counter are exactly in sync- however,
: : if you hit play using the spacebar or shuttle zero, the audio and
: : counter are out of sync, and it gets progressively worse the later you
: : start into the session. We're at a loss here as to explain what's going
: : on here- any tech heads out there have any possible explanations?
: : The folks at Digi-Design haven't been able to give us an answer yet.
: : Oh, and FLETCH WON, right?
