Why was the boom mic in the shot so often?

Bad filmmaking. Or probably, more appropriately, bad boom operators.

My guess is that directors notice the mic, but either:
A.) Feel the scene works so good, they don't want to shoot it again
-OR-
B.) Don't have the budget to reshoot.

I haven't seen THE REPLACEMENTS, but the boom mic problem can't be any worse than in WHAT PLANET ARE YOU FROM. The mic was literally in every other shot.
