Right before this past Christmas, a few days or so, me fellow View Askew freak friend Ryan and I took a small road trip to Red Bank, New Jersey. And how couldn't we? Once we got to Broad St., I was amazed at the sight of Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash. And how couldn't I be? Any building with Jay and Silent Bob has to be great. Not to mention it's probably the best comic book store I've ever been to. They had things in there I had been looking for for so long and couldn't find in any other conventional comic store. The Buddy Christ statue blew my mind, along with the 'four way road' drawing from Chasing Amy. The bloody Mooby statue was of course a cute touch.
On a side-note from such a great store... I noticed something amazing before I had even walked through the door. There is was, across the street. Jack's Music Shoppe. Home to Bank Holdup Productions. How did I overlook the fact that Jack's Music Shoppe was on Broad St. Needless to say, we walked around inside. The best part, however, was the photo opportunity sitting on the same steps as Jason Lee and Ben Affleck. What a picture. Back to the store...
Know what blew my mind the most?
Walt was working the register.
Sure, I had heard the legends. However, it was hard to believe that Walt really worked there for me. He was a really cool guy, needless to say. And he did us a great favor. Gave us directions to...you guessed it.
The Quick Stop.
The highlight of the trip. I was amazed of how the inside looked exactly (and i mean EXACTLY) like it did in the movie. It did seem smaller than it appeared in the movie. Plus seeing it in color made me have to take a moment. I knew Clerks was filmed on location, but it still shocked me nonetheless.
We needed souvenirs, of course. Ryan bought Gatorade. I bought Pringles.
The pictures are priceless. In front of the Quick Stop, in front of RST Video, on the steps of Bank Holdup productions, Buddy Christ.
The point of all of this? Inspiration. I'm planning my next trip there. Red Bank and Leonardo, NJ is a trip every fan has to take. All you east-coasters, get there quick if you haven't already! All you west-coasters...
God it sucks to be you.
