: Isis, c'mon, you're above spelling issues, right? Maybe that's just annoyance coming through.
Usually, yes. And yes.
: The Book of Shadows sounds like a video game. I have a hard time believing that there is a serious religion that calls its book one of shadows.
It's rather simple really. First of all, the Book of Shadows is not a constant thing. Many people keep individual ones, different covens or circles have different ones, it's not a solid text like the Bible or the Koran.
As for the shadows bit, pagans have a thing about embracing the night, the darkness. We don't dig the light/dark duality (or any type of duality, for that matter). And shadows also refers to the secrecy such texts were supposedly kept in (*are* traditionally still supposed to be kept in, but in this age of information people trade Book of Shadows material like Pokemon cards).
: but t'ain't ny bidness. And just cause paans can't complain as loud as christians doesn't make them the more injured. there are plenty of movies that have islamic murderers and they have people against them, too. The press coverage for the anti-True Lies demonstrations was smaller than the press coverage for the anti-Dogma demonstration, but that didn't mean that the protesting Muslims were more wronged on a fundamental level just because fewer people heard their cries. I'm taking issue with that as an argument.
And Islam isn't an established, politically powerful institution? Less so than Christianity in this country, perhaps, but more so than Paganism anywhere.
I DO believe it's more morally reprehensible to attack a group of people who are not only relatively powerless, but widely misunderstood already. Think about it this way -- is it worse to hit a muscled, 180-pound man or a skinny, twelve year old girl? The action on YOUR part is exactly the same, but the effect is obviously worse on the weaker party.
: Why not? Maybe in this case all press is good press.
This is definitely NOT true when it comes to Paganism. If you don't believe me, turn on your local news next Halloween. I'll bet you any amount of money, drugs or sex with underage Hong Kong prostitutes that you'll see at least one "sensational" story on local "covens" (usually some freaks the media digs up who are into masked orgies & cutting each other or some such) or about local pet stores having all their black cats picked up the night before Halloween for "Satanic sacrifices".
Trust me, most press is bad press for the Pagan crowd.
: I mean, if there are bits of reality in the film, some people might see the movie and say 'wow, that seemed interesting to me in some way i can't describe, i think i should look into that further.' Putting the bits of reality into the film will make it easier for those people to find something worthwhile to follow up on.
Honestly, I wouldn't WANT the people that "Blair Witch" would interest. I don't want the ones "The Craft" interested. Those people all want to learn how to fly and "curse" their enemies to morbid deaths.
Besides, the Craft doesn't recruit or seek converts, so that's not much of a selling point for us.
: did you read Kevin's last post where he said that Jay and Bob are in the process of trying to score dope from the local NJ branch of the Coven when the gang from the club scene in Dogma comes out of the bushes and kills all the witches cause they think they're a menace? Just wondering.
Fuck no! Are you kidding me? And who the fuck is "The Coven"?
Now I'm going to go check this out, and then I'm going to get REALLY pissed off. But don't worry, because I'm a fuckin' Zen Jedi.
