because there is way too much underneath the original post and I am far too lazy.
Let me begin by saying that I have a very close friend who is Wiccan.
I have no problems with Wiccans, or any religion for that matter.
Although I'm not Hindu I tend to roll with their whole concept of, "Your religion's okay and my religion is ok. I will celebrate and you will celebrate."
But here's my problem.
Simply because you feel that Paganism is not a widely accepted faith (and I'm not saying it is- Although, I add again, that I have NO qualms what so ever about it), you can't bitch that it is any "less fair" for it to be "picked on."
So, if a group has more political strength, larger numbers or a long standing history, it is alright to pick on them? To speak ill of them without foundation?
Is it ok to pick on me and abuse me because I am white and raised with a Catholic background?
Should I live my life admitting that yes, I deserve what ever shit people may give me because people of my race, or my religion, hurt others?
I didn't do it.
I feel bad.
I may not hold their views.
But to say that it is "more fair" to pick on me because of a history I did not create and may not agree with?
Virtually every new religious movement (which Christianity was at one time) is originally looked upon -by some- with negativity.
Not because it is right, or fair.
But because it is out of the ordinary. Because people don't understand it.
And society, as a whole, is stupid. They fear things that are unusual and hard for them to understand.
But every group goes through it.
Catholicism had its share.
That didn't make it any more fair than what you face, being Pagan.
The other fact is that, you are taking offense at Fantasy.
Throughout history there have been tales of Goblins and Ghouls, of Ghosts and Witches.
None of those were meant to insult Pagans.
I didn't dress up as a dead cheerleader on Halloween in the seventh grade because I hated Pagans.
I don't even know that I knew what one was.
Movies such as Blair Witch are meant to be entertaining (whether they are, or not, is another story).
Was "The Craft" intended to lash out against Pagans, giving them a bad name?
No. It was meant to be fun and imaginative and a little scary (Again, whether or not it was being an ENTIRELY different story).
But anyone with half a brain, or even a retarded hamster jogging in the wheel of their brain, could do a MINIMAL amount of research about the topic. And with that research they would learn that Wiccan and Pagan religions are VERY different from the fantasies that we see in movies and in television.
The media doesn't tell us what to think.
It gives us something to think about.
And if some numbnut kids can't separate the reality from fantasy and try to blow up pigs with their mind, that's not your fault.
Just remind yourself that they are fucking idiots, go on with your life. Repect yourself.
Love and be loved.
Because that's what it's all about, right?
