They were debating between ABC and UPN. ABC convinced View Askew that UPN would be dead in a few months, so they went with ABC. Then UPN hooked up with the WWF and flourished, and ABC cancelled Clerks leaving Kevin Smith pissed that he had gone with ABC.
I'd love to see the show shopped out to someone else, but I doubt it will happen. And if it does, a Cable network (like Comedy Central) would probably be more apt to pick it up then a Network. Maybe UPN would? But then again they seem to be in trouble again.
But the truth is (and maybe I'm wrong and someone in the know - read: red names - can shed some light?) I think Kevin Smith has too much on his plate now with VA 5, Fletch Won, and a ton of comic books that are eventually going to get done to deal with Clerks. I think it's just going to stay dead for now.
I guess only time will tell for sure. BUT, all the episodes they made (I think a total of eight, even though only two aired) will be coming out on DVD with all kinds of DVD goodies... I think in December. Maybe later, though. I'm not sure. Look for that.
