I recently listened to Chasing Amy's commentary track and I was surprised to learn that the scene in which Alyssa slaps Holden didn't work in France. I understood (misunderstood?) female audience has cheered Alyssa's decision instead of shut up or cry or something. I knew frenches chicks may sometimes be bitches :))
To answer "French don't understand cinema" from Ben affleck: unfortunately I'd say it is often true... How can we (I am a -fucking- french from France of course ;-) ) warmly welcome movies which really suck (Here I'm talking about Emmerich's craps and all others of the same kind !)
