OK I will admit it we strayed...a lot. Sorry. Seriously though I am curious to hear some responses from those in the know on this topic.
I am a huge fan of online films from any of the different sites that feature them. Some of them show some serious potential and talent. Have any of you had to deal with copyright infringement on any level? Putting a piece of music into a scene can add so much, but unfortunately that may also incure lawsuits now.
Let's say iFilm.com features many indy projects, some of which have some popular music that is copyrighted. Should they, or the film's creators, be held responsible for possible copyright infringement? Or should the studios lighten up and let them have their moment in the sun?
Personally I think they should let things be. If the film makes it to cult status, or hits the mainstream then maybe some sort of settlement would be best for all parties. Blatant disregard for copyright is a different story. mp3.com and Napster are going to get their asses sued, and lose. I doubt very much that Kevin would like to see Dogma for download in DVD quality. Thoughts, opinions, flames?
