Hi,
This is my first post, but I've been reading alot of these messages. That arguement about Fight Club caught my eye, Vince didn't really seem to like it at all, but i never got a good idea of how Kevin felt about it. I know this is a little after the fact, but I thought the picture was fascinating. Not just directorially, but I thought the writing was amazing to. I understand that it was dark and at times mysoginistic, but a lot of films these days are. Fight Club almost seemed to me as another "Heart of Darkness", movies like these(Fight Club, Apocolypse Now, Natural Born Killers) have been hailed for showing the posibility of our darker sides getting the best of us under dire situations. Whether or not everyone has a dark side, its a safe bet that most of us have our skeletons, and I know that there are parts of me that i don't like about myself. To me Fight Club simply took this idea to an extreme. The characters felt that society was destroying what made them human, so in an attempt to rectify the situation, they effectively lost all remnants of humanity they had left. All the ideas in the film should be taken with a grain of salt, as the writer showed the evil in modern society, and the darker evil in anarchy. I'm no expert, but to suggest that this movie is eye candy for psychopaths is an exaggeration to say the least. While this movie could never have the depth of insight and the simple honesty that can be found in "Chasing Amy"(and thats not just lip service), it WAS an intrigueing story that put forth some interesting ideas. Kevin I'd appreciate your opinion.
thanks,
John
