: there be a tidal wave of great new ideas, or a tidal wave of crap?
Direct parallel with the music industry over here. Because it's possible to make dance music entirely on a PC or MAC, the charts and shops are now being flooded by talentless fuckwits who programme a 4 / 4 beat, add some squeaky sounds and samples and think that's all there is to it. Of course, quality does shine through, but it's a lot harder to find under all the dross - when there is such an overwhelming amount of dance music around, you're inevitably going to hear a lot of the shit.
To sum up, there should be a tidal wave of good ideas, but a Deep Impact-sized wave of crap as well. It's going to be a lot harder to find the good stuff, but at least the good stuff will have a chance of being seen.
