The film industry is subject to the suppply and demand rule just like everyother indusrty. The new digital film mediums will most likely produce a tidal wave of crap, as you put it, but most of us will never be subjected to that crap becuase it will never get adequate distribution being that it is crap. Unless there is a deman for it and that is different debate about the standards of our society on film. There are people out there who will label anything they don't fully understand art (or crap depending on the person) and there are people out there who will say it's not a really great movie unless something blow up, the guy gets the girl, there are a lot of dick jokes, (insert your criteria here) and sadly when large groups of these people have the same criteria for what makes a "good" film they control what gets made to an extent becuase they are the "target market". So I guess what I'm trying to say is yes the new technology will create a tidal wave of crap and we just have to hope that no one wants to buy it becuase the new technology will also make it easier for people like Kevin Smith's of the world to get thier start in the business by turning out good flicks, like Clerks, for much cheeper than they previously could.

: YOUR OPINIONS (AND KEVINS) DESPERATELY NEEDED

:
: I am in the middle of a God foresaken thesis on the impact of cheap
: digital technology on the entertainment industry.

: The question is...

: Now we can all shoot and edit digital movies for less and less, will
: there be a tidal wave of great new ideas, or a tidal wave of crap?

: All responses greatly appreciated.
