...the opening comic book store scene & the lawyer scene adding much more "oomph" to the notion of just how much money is in play, but I felt Alyssa's speech seemed overly long, and would have seriously dragged the pace of the whole thing where Holden is a'courting..
: OK, I just got a DVD player and have now watched the DVD. Made a beeline for the deleted scenes after enjoying the flick on a wide(r) screen format and better quality than VHS.
: Seems the deleted scenes do add something to the film. So, I'm wondering: Were they deleted just for time or did you do it to change the emphasis of the film?
: For instance: The opening comic store sequence seems to explain Holden's dilemma of art vs money a lot better. This is developed well in the MTV Office sequence. Both of these make Holden's attraction to Alyssa more understandable. So did you delete these to shorten the running time, because you thought they were weak, or to concentrate on the love story / tragedy? Or something else?
: Similarly, Alyssa's story during the Dartboard sequence seemed to make the point well that she believed you could have either love or money. And this also helps explain Holden's later actions.
: Also, Banky's anti-gay diatribe seems to make sense, at least it has internal logic: he honestly believes that Alyssa is deliberately messing with his mind. His complaining to Holden makes the blowup between the two (which is in the theatrical version) more understandable.
: Soooo....care to comment on the above? Those scenes don't seem to last too long so I'm not convinced you would have cut them for running time reasons only. I'd be interested to know why you cut them.
