You can't really compare the two. The three main players of Spinal Tap, Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer), Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest) and David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean) wrote and performed all of the Tap songs on the soundtrack. They even had a second album about 7 years ago. I love Tap. They are awesome.

Lee and crew did a great job of playing a band. Peter Frampton tutored Jason on singing and his stage presence, but Lee admitted in an interview that he didn't actually sing the songs. Billy Crudup learned more guitar and even still plays, but I don't think he played on the songs. The other two, though, really are musicians. Probably why they didn't have many speaking lines. :) They all did a great job evoking the feeling that they really were a 70's rock band. Especially Lee. He reminded me of clips I saw a long time ago of Plant of Zep walking around stage. Crowe did say he'd like to see them all play again. Maybe Jason Lee can sing after all. Has anyone heard him sing?

Beyond all of that. . .Tap is a Heavy Metal band and Stillwater is a Classic Rock band. Their stage presences are extremely different. Plus, Lee and the guys were trying (and succeeding) to make themselves seem like a Classic Rock band. Where Tap was trying to mock Heavy Metal bands. And did a damn fine job of it too. :)

: . . . is a no contest. I like Jason Lee and I thought "Almost Famous" was the best movie I've seen this year (well, almost, anyway), but Stillwater can't hold a candle to Spinal Tap, that is why they had 0%. You shouldn't vote for something "just because . . ." I saw News Askew pimping for votes, and I just thought I'd comment. I'm a couple days late, I think, but I try to live in the now.

: The "This is Spinal Tap" Special Edition DVD is great (the commentary is the best part) and I think the movie was just rereleased to a limited market, by the way.

: Hope everyone gets to see "Almost Famous" in the next couple of weeks!
