: : : 7)What's your most prized Laserdisk?
: : The Criterion LOLITA with the beautiful Kubrick-supervised multi-aspect ratio transfer that wasn't used for the DVD.
: How much of a difference is there between the transfers? Would it be worth picking up the LD off of ebay or something? I think it usually goes for a bit.
... since I didn't know about the Criterion LD, but I was under the impression that the film, unlike any Kubrick except for Spartacus, was shot in 2.35:1 (though, I suppose Vincent said it's multi-aspect ratio, so it's probably like Strangelove in that respect, only wider) and that it is not available on VHS or DVD (despite the fact that the DVD mentions the ratio, I believe) in that format. Either way, I do know that it's really hard to find letterboxed (I believe Turner Classic Movies shows it that way, though I'm unsure if it's the Kubrick-supervised version).
I also think it's an interesting pick, Vincent, because I remember you telling me once that that was your least favorite Kubrick. (Though, without seeing BARRY LYNDON, and without counting FEAR AND DESIRE, I'd probably agree with you.)
