Well, a lot of times the "makings of" are shot on a standard professional NTSC video format like Betacam-SP, which is 4:3. Also, video companies usually aren't willing to pay the added expense of doing a new video transfer of a trailer, so they use existing masters that were created for television and are 4:3. Some video companies HAVE started doing 16:9 trailer transfers though- I think Anchor Bay does them now.
Vincent
