My favorite film is Mallrats. Most critics seemed to hate it because it lacked a plot and a message. The characters weren't developed too well, either. Not to mention the fact that after Clerks, their expectations were pretty fuckin' high.
Regardless, most people I know who have seen the movie laugh their ass off and really love it. It seems like it wasn't designed to be a movie that you would sit back and think about afterward. It was just a fun, laugh out loud type of movie.

: What IS everyones favorite VA film? Personally, mine would have to be Dogma. I really wanna get my hands on the Cannes version of the film. Chasing Amy was pretty good, Mallrats was good as well (why the fuck do people so thoroughly badmouth it??), Clerks was great but would've been better if it didn't look like a student film B&W piece of shit (no offense). Anyhoo, Alanis did a great job on "Still"... and as God LOL. It's great to see film-makers like Kevin that aren't afraid to say whatever they need say to get their opinions and art across to the public.
: Also... keeping Yin and Yang in mind... You cant have light without dark, up without down... etc. Without the other how would you compare it to anything?? Thinking of this... How can you have a suposedly "GOOD" heaven without something evil (according to the beginning "only angels and god and heaven"). Just a thought.
