Speaking for myself, as a smoker, and on behalf of all my smoking friends and relatives,
FUCK YOU.
Why do you even care? Please, TRY to tell us how much it pains you to see smokers in Mallrats. Affleck and Smith? They ARE cool people, whether they smoke or not.
As for your reasonings, you apparently HAVEN'T thought much about it. There are LOTS of reasons people start smoking. The two you have mentioned may find most of their validity among junior high kids, but I didn't see any junior high kids in the Mallrats commentary. I saw artists... grown men, individuals, nonconformists, intellectual and intelligent, highly developed, emotional, mature people, with a lot more on their minds than looking cool and seventh grade math.
Perhaps they smoke in the face of existential anxieties. Perhaps smoking is their way of saying, "Fuck you world; you don't give a fuck about anything, and I don't give a fuck that you don't give a fuck!" Or perhaps that's just me.
So none of your friends smoke. Either that or you have no respect for your "loser" friends. I feel sorry for you; that you would write off people before taking a chance to get to know them, because many of them are cool. I, however, have never looked at somebody smoking and thought to myself, damn they look cool. I have gotten to know lots of people and learned that they ARE cool, and so what if they smoke. Maybe they even started smoking for the very two reasons you mentioned, I don't know why they smoke and it doesn't matter to me, why does it matter to you?
Good god, seeing some people on a dvd smoking PAINS you???? Then you know NOTHING about real pain... YOU'RE sad, YOU'RE pathetic. Stop worrying so much about other people and their motives for how they live their lives.
Maybe smoking is a mistake, just about everything else I've ever done in my life has been a mistake, but life's too long for regrets, I don't regret my mistakes because I learn from them and because I believe that a mistake is simply when you don't get your desired outcome, but I'm glad I atleast have the balls to take risks, whether I like the outcome or not, because life is in the role of the dice. You've made a mistake being so judgemental and critical and prejudiced... why don't you take this opportunity to learn from that.
Otherwise, please just go back to the fucking happy world of bunnies, where everyone is a nonsmoker, and everyone gets along, because everyone is like you, and you never have to be challenged, and everything is perfect, and you can live forever because you have clean, healthy lungs, and you can eat my shit all fucking day.

"You fuckin nazi"
: I can't tell you how much it pains me to see EVERYONE present at
: the Mallrats commentary recording smoking. Especially Affleck and
: Smith, since they seem like such cool people. I have never had any
: respect for smokers. I mean, think about it... how do people start
: smoking? What are the reasons for it? There are only two:
: 1. To look cool. This is number one for a reason. It's the main reason
: people try smoking. What could POSSIBLY be sadder?
: 2. Curiosity. Not quite as sad, but still... how fucking stupid. I could
: understand somewhat if you got started as a dumb teenager, but to
: start as an adult (and continue, despite having children), is just
: amazing.
