You may not be giving Mohr enough credit.

: Please for the love of god do not cast Jay Mohr as Fletch! Jason Lee is perfect for the role!

He is, indeed, a very good possibility to do the role justice.

: Jay Mohr would equal the Jar Jar Binks of Fletch!

Um, I'm not sure what you mean.

: In all honesty name one time Jay Mohr made anyone laugh, with exception to his film career? I can name numerous funny lines and movies that Jason Lee was in (granted most of them were written by you)... which helps make my point more valid!

Actually, I believer that you *have* hit on a point here.
Mohr is, by-and-large a seriously talented, personable and likeable guy. Just because he hasn't made *you* laugh doesn't mean he doesn't have the goods to do justice to Kevin Smith-scripted "Fletch" dialogue.

Lee's a likeable presence but with all due respect, just how "funny" is he when Kev. isn't writing for him?

My point is that if Kevin can get the project off the ground but can't encourage Miramax to see if a top-billed Jason Lee can open a flick, Jay Mohr would hardly be step-down as second choice for Irwin Fletcher.

He's got the goods, man. Really.
