i agree. it's not a limitation on what you can or cannot do, it's simply a
name... and gender-sensitive names are important in this day and
age where contact is made, not face to face, but over e-mail, by
calling someone's office
there is nothing more embarrassing than asking for Mr. X and finding
out it's really a Mrs., Ms., Miss. X... and imagine going to a meeting
with an assumed male (and being all sloppy and boylike), but finding
out it's a she... and a hot one at that.. sigh. your "chance" is blown...
: )
example:
i've got a friend whose name is Kyle. only Kyle's a girl and it's
pronounced kyleeeeeeee. (actually, she used to have to write it with
that little bar over the "e" to signify that it was a loooong "e".)
whenever she went to a new school she was put in the BOY PE
classes, BOY dormitories, BOY whatever... not to mention the
headaches associated with first day of school Roll Call (especially in
high school/college when it was six or seven different teachers all
expecting a boy... all requiring an explanation), or when time came to
get a driver's license, a passport, anytime anybody checked her ID
(police or doormen), etc...
anyhow... at 22 she got fed up with it and killed herself.
just kidding. she changed her name to "kylee" to though.
