: to bbuster. do you honestly think fanning created napster and gave it away
: free with the thought that he would eventually get sued and then become a

: didn't start until after the lawsuits.
: fanning created an internet community and profited by it, kevin smith made
: a semi-popular movie and created a community to tell him how great he is.
No. I think Fanning probably started out like the majority of the people on Napster: he wanted something for nothing and wanted to create a "community" of thieves. If the record companies weren't so slow to adjust to the internet market, we probably wouldn't have ever heard of him. I'm sure he realized that his program would be appealing to the record companies at some point. Unless he's a total dope, he must have initially known that the record companies were going to come after him for copyright infringement (I like how you refer to laws as "outside interference"--I'm sure if you ever put out a record that millions of people could download without paying you a cent, you'd be singing a different song). You're either very naive or very cheap, borg. Why do I suspect the latter?
For the record, I do occasionally download a song from Napster (mainly when something is extremely difficult to find or when I'm just mildly interested in something). But I don't download music in lieu of purchasing CDs. I'm still one of the record companies' best friends. I think the majority of the people who download music exclusively from the internet (or "exchange freely" as borg puts it) are either children or cheap fucks.
