Rev is right. There was no Gretzky game for the Genesis. Sega Sports published Wayne Gretzky 3D Hockey (in 1994, I believe) for the Sega Saturn. This is one of the few hockey games that Sega ever published (along with NHL All-Star Hockey and NHL All-Star Hockey '98 also for Saturn, and the recent NHL2K1 for the Dreamcast). Why were they playing with Genesis controllers (were they?), I don't know, but the game in the final version of the film definitely wasn't EA's NHL '93 or '94. The Genesis wasn't capable of 2 different views and 3D graphics. It was, after all, a 16-bit system.

: I used to play NHL '94 everyday after school. It was the Sega game with a picture of a Boston Bruin diving on the ice trying to stop a Los Angeles King from getting to the goal on the cover. I am definate you could not change the perspective to a press box view that early in the series.
: I am not sure about Wayne Gretzkys hockey though? That is the only other hockey game I remember. Sorry if I sound like an ass as well.
