: Whats the big deal??

does this ring a bell:
"In light of the enormous traffic the main board and the OWB already receive, it seems foolhardy to channel all of that to this one board. I foresee the board flipping 3-5 times a day, precluding people from the opportunity to respond to posts that are quickly archived. This will precipitate multitudinous reposts and threads with no continuity. I might be wrong in this assumption, but it seems more likely than not."

how about this:
"A format such as the UBB allows for a depth of discussion unavailable with the WWWBoard. I say this under the assumption that we will still no longer be able to respond to posts that have been archived."

Or did you not read that part?

The board as it is now will not allow the same type of discussion currently available on the OWB. Everything will archive before it can be addressed by everyone interested in the topic. Sure, you can post something off topic and ask for responses. In two hours, the board will fill up and flip disallowing responses from members that might have something to contribute. There's no value judgment here, this is fact.

Subjectively speaking, many of the people on the OWB have gotten to know each other fairly well. It's my belief that the format encourages that type of relationship because the topics are available for response for weeks at a time. As a result, it's an environment that fosters a personal connection for some.

You should note that I DID add the caveat "assuming the format remains the way it is now." It may not. Whatever format the "Board of the Future" takes, it will be vastly different from the way it is now. I am sorry to see it change, but as Kevin inexplicably saw fit to reiterate: it's his world to do with as he pleases. He's God here, for good or ill.

Johanna
