I've always been facinated by flicks. When I took my first film history class at College last semester, I decided that one day, I wanted to make a movie.
Every moron has this dream. A great deal of them are talentless, self obsessed jackasses. Just like me. So I figured, cool, at least I'll be in familiar company.
But this declaration of purpouse means very little from a college student in Iowa. Orson Welles was 26 when he made Citizen Kane, so I figure I've got about six and a half years to make a flick, if I'm going to do it. I had pretty much abbandoned the hope after a heartfelt talk with my father about my aspirations.
"Dad, I'm thinking about making a movie."
"Yeah." He snorted. "That'll happen. Haw."
But then, today, I was at the Salvation Army, and something wonderful and unprecidented happened.
I tripped.
"FUCK!" I yelled among the shoppers.
And, as I lie there on the cold tile floor, trying to decide whether or not it was worth the effort to pick myself up, I saw it. It was sitting on the bottom of the electronics shelf, below an egg cooker and some sort of waffle Iron/ digital clock. A camera.
It was small, about the size of a pair of binoculars. It's lens twinkled underneath the dingy yellow florecent lights. I reached for it.
On the side, in metal, was the word "Bentley." Underneath, it said "Super 8" and "B-3". I held it in my hand and noticed the battery door was missing. It was priced at seven dollars.
Here is my question to you both. Is this an omen? Should I use this camera to make a movie? Did I get ripped off, or is this a quality rig?
I hope you will answer.
Luke.
