I seem to remember reading that the character of Randal was based on Vincent when they were both clerks in the same shop. Vincent apparently encouraged Kevin to get out and make films, in the same way that Randal encouraged Dante to get a better job.

I would guess that the Holden character is closest to Kevin, especially as Chasing Amy is meant to be Kevin's most personal film. That said, since he writes all the dialogue, I have little doubt he has elements of most of his characters in him, although he probably let Brodie and Banky say the more outrageous stuff that maybe he wouldn't himself (although as I don't know the gentleman, he could be like that all the time).
