Chasing Amy was independant. At least, that's what Smith said. According to what I read, Miramax said they wanted Drew Barrymore as Alyssa and David Schwimmer as Banky. So instead of doing this, they just funded it themselves and let Miramax release it.
I dunno if it's right or not, but it seems to me that Chasing Amy was independant.
