I'm absolutely thrilled to say, that I survived the drive home from Hiram after the showing. For those of you who don't live in Northeast Ohio, Hiram is located about 45 minutes southeast of Cleveland in the heart of the ever popular "snowbelt". The tensions in my little VW were high as my poor car would slide from one side of the lane toward the other, and the ominous drainage ditches.
Anyways... onto the showing.
My roommate and I got to Hiram about a half-hour early. We found the building easily enough, but were surprised to find it absolutely deserted. The only person there was Vincent holding the copy of "A Better Place". And let me tell you, Vincent looked nothing like I thought he would. I was expecting maybe the stereotypical bohemian film student type. Maybe somebody wearing a lot of black and would be very pretentious. But to my surprise, he was just a regular guy.
Now, about the video projector... tell me you weren't running the video Vincent??? ;) I couldn't believe that a student film organization didn't know how to work simple AV equipment. The screen geometry was never correct (we watched a trapazoid shaped movie). Anyway, you didn't notice it after the film started.
I won't critique the film (although I enjoyed it greatly) or give away the story (the rest of you can just wait for the DVD), but I will say that it is a disturbing tale. You will all be very pleased when it does finally reach DVD.
Although my roommate keeps harping on why didn't Barret throw the gun in the ocean when he had the chance.... I just tend to ignore him. :)
