Hi. You don't know me, and I don't know you. I post occasionally on
the VA board, but not often: I still feel that posting there, save
questions to Kevin and the Gang (like Kool and the Gang, only less hip)
isn't my place. Since I've read the summaries and don't have any
questions, I seldom post. But, to reiterate, you don't know me, and I
don't know you.
Anyway, enough about me.
What you wanted to hear was that someone else knew what it was like to
fall in love with a book. It seemed that this might be of some comfort
to you, and I can tell you, in all honesty, that I, too, have fallen in
love with a book. The book is called A Prayer for Owen Meany and it's
written by the incredibly talented John Irving, of The World According
To Garp and The Cider House Rules fame. This tome is... brilliant. In
every possible sense of the word. It imbued my life with hope, dreams,
and a sense of purpose at a time when I desperately needed it.
I implore you to pick up a copy. You can get it virtually anywhere in
paperback for eight bucks, and it'll be some of the best money you'll
ever spend, I hope. Holden taught you cynicism, and I understand that.
I can only hope that you'll let Owen teach you about having a purpose.
In fact, if you're interested, I'd be more than happy to reimburse you
the money necessary for you to purchase this book if you don't enjoy it
on the level that I did. I've got a feeling that's eight dollars I can
go ahead and spend on something else, though.
Anyway, I've taken up enough of your time. I just wanted you to know
that there are like-minded people out there, and I also really, really
want you to at least give Owen a look.
