: what exactly are the legal issues involving scripts
: that makes somethings impossible and others possible?
Mr Smith could read a script by someone: that isn't really a legal issue as it is. the legal issue arises when the person who wrote the script tries to sue Kevin for a wedge for ripping off his ideas. if there is enough similarity between something in a script Kevin was sent and a script Kevin wrote and developed to a film, he could be in some deep shit. so, to avoid any possiblility of some dick trying to make a fast buck by sueing Kevin or VA for idea-stealage, people are advised not to send scripts in. and if they do, the scripts will be binned sharpish.
when it's Kevin's friends, though, it's not likely that they're gonna try and grab some money by sueing him. they could just steal his credit cards.
