: ::....something has got to be nominated though, right? There really haven't
: been any films this year with true value.

: REQUIEM FOR A DREAM

At least they gave Burstyn the nomination she so fiercely deserved. I still think she has a chance over Julia Roberts too, if only enough people say to themselves "Julia's going to win anyway, let's vote for the person who genuinely deserves it.

: I'd argue that there were plenty of worthy films this year, it's just that
: the Academy ignored most of them. The Oscars are a joke and this year
: pretty much confirms that moreso than any other year in recent memory.

As much as that's true now, wait for the response from people when "Gladiator" wins...

: It's best that they just be ignored- well, except for Bjork and Thom Yorke
: performing "I've Seem It All"- I'll tune in to watch that.

I just want to see Steve Martin.

: I did like ERIN BROCKOVICH a whole lot though, and haven't seen CROUCHING
: TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON yet so they might have gotten that right too.

What about Chocolat? I can't believe that of all the movies Miramax could buy nominations for, they chose that one.
[I hated CT,HD but was already prepared for it being nominated for picture and, I think, Ang Lee winning director.]

To be fair, though, it was the worst year for movies that I can remember for a while. But just 'cause of that doesn't mean they should go out of their way to nominate bad things, or at least one bad thing for a lot of stuff.
