: When I started my new job I was trained by the guy I was taken over, however time to time my manager would instruct me on other matters but not really train me on it.
: Webster's Pocket Dictionary:
: Instruct: Teach, To Give Orders.
: Train: 1:make or become prepared or skilled. 2:cause to grow as desired

: Believe it or not the words have different meanings. They are close but not the same.
: Read before you write
Check your dictionary again. Mine says:
TEACH:
1. to instruct by imparting knowledge to.
TRAIN:
1. to make proficient through instruction.
INSTRUCT:
1. 1. to teach; educate; inform.
And you were not "taken over" anybody... you were taking over for someone. Get your grammar together before you try to argue semantics.
(In my best Lynch impersonation) Read before you write... indeed!
