I've decided it must have been a copy of the movie.
There isn't any indication in the movie that Brodie reads anything more than comic books (not that it's a bad thing). However you may notice a poster for the movie "Tremors" hangs in his basement vault. This indicates to me that he is a fan of classic '80s flicks. Fletch is a classic '80s flick. Thus, he is likely to own a copy of the movie.
This logic is sketchy, I realize, but we have to come to an answer of some kind. It was a copy of Fletch the Movie. Anybody disagree?
