For using the name "Lilith Fair"...of course, he didn't catch on until it was in its third year. The man is a prejudiced moron, there is no rhyme or reason to his actions. I haven't read the newsletter but I presume he feels that the Buddy Christ is an "idolatrous" (read: non-traditional) image that presents Jesus in an undignified manner.
You really don't need to do much to piss Falwell & co. off. I once attended a Haunted House put on by Liberty University (although I didn't know that at the time) and they had this whole room that portrayed the Beatles as psychedelic demons. The BEATLES, for sanity's sake. We're talking about holy-roller, super-righteous good ol' boy country here. To Falwell and his cronies, even just being Catholic rather than Protestant is a little suspect, so they don't need a better excuse than Buddy Christ to attack.
Just wait until one of 'em actually watches the movie...

: I assume Falwell's publication is condemning or attacking Buddy...Im not lucky enough to receive that newsletter(or is it unlucky enough)...I never seen whats so offensive about Buddy C anyways...It seems like the kind of thing they'd go for, considering the effort, time, and money they put into the WWJD thing, to make Jesus seem more hip or cool. I will have to tell you though...if the Catholic Church used the Buddy Christ back when I was a kid, I would probably still be Catholic today...But Im perfectly happy just being a Human Being...This newsletter, brought to you by the guy who eductates us on the Dark Evil that is The Teletubbies...Bill Cosby better watch out, Falwell may delcare war on Jell-O Pudding for being TOO good and yummy, and label the Coz as the Devil himself.

: ps I will be ordering a Buddy for my computer at work soon...
: : : For Kevin - thought you might be interested in seeing The Buddy Christ featured in Jerry Falwell's "National Liberty Journal" (March 2001, Volume 30, Number 3, page 1 and 12). Somehow, I ended up on their mailing list (which is odd, since I'm a liberal agnostic, and registered Democrat).
: : : You should check out their paper, though. It was even funnier than Dogma (no, not really...but close!) Can't wait for the return of Jay and Silent Bob...and, can't wait to get my Infinity Highway t-shirt in the mail (damn you guys are slow! =-) )
