Nancy Wilson, the writer of the song, was asked to sing it because she was on set for the big concert scene. She got up on stage and sang the song in a voice she describes as her "male rock singer voice", and Crowe liked the way it sounded so much that he had it deepened just a smidgeon more with the recording equipment and used it for Jeff Bebe's voice in the movie.
