: I was once at one of Kevin's Q&As at Rider University, and here's a transcription from memory of Kevin's answer to your question.

:
: Q: So was Banky Gay in Chasing Amy?
: KS: Did you think he was gay?
: Q: Yeah.
: KS: Then I think you're gay.

: Basically, Banky's sexuality is as much an ambiguity as the future of Holden and Alyssa's relationship.

: One can say that Banky was conflicted about his sexuality. But MANY, MANY straight men are just as protective of their friends. Especially when a friendship runs two decades and a relationship that's run two months is getting in the way of that. Banky's behavior in the movie is a lot of Kevin's reflection on Friends that start dating and disappear.

: So one can read that Banky was not Gay for Holden, so much as willing to do anything for his friend. If Holden had proposed that Banky strangle Alyssa to death for shaming Holden, then I'm sure Banky would have done that as well.

: Oddly enough it was Banky's willingness to do anything for Holden that drove them apart. After his assention was made to the proposed deal, the cat could not be put bag into the bag. And the realization that Banky would have done it plagued Holden.

: The nod at the end is more of the same nod you see "veterans" give each other on V-Day and such. An acknowledgement of what once was and a reinforcement that there are no hard feelings, life is just different now.

: VB
: Does that help?
