Cool... thanks.

We got access to a couple local bands/artists and their material... so hopefully we can fill the film where we need some tunes. There is one song that we're dying to use for the opener, but are concerned with rights issues -- especially since we're hoping to get the flick around to various festivals. This is our first attempt at a feature film... and although many things have fallen into place, other things (such as the music) have us making wild guesses.

: Your best bet woud be to use local bands and musicians. You can
: draw up your own little contract stating that you can use their songs in
: your independent film. since you are helping each other there would
: likely be no money involved.

: As for Clerks. the songs that were not in the original version of the
: movie were licensed and or paid for by Miramax or the artists donated
: the song.

: If you are going to put your film in festivals, avoid using songs that
: belong to recording labels. Because the festivals themselves charge
: money for people to view the movies being shown, the record labels
: will get a little hissy about music rights. If the movie will only be seen
: by your friends and family, you are not liekly to be in any danger.
