Nobody from Columbia Tri-Star sent us check discs (hell, I haven't even been sent a copy of the finished DVD yet)- had they, I would have raised a stink about the deleted scenes before the DVD went to press. It would have been ideal if we'd been given check discs of the "original" version back in December, because with the delay caused by the Mouse bullshit, we'd have had the time to redo the deleted scenes correctly. But, we were kept out of the loop, only being sent check tapes that all looked like AVID outputs anyway, so it was impossible to judge the "quality" of the deleted scenes compared to the surrounding material since all of it looked very digitally compressed.
Don at Synapse has kept me in the loop from day one- that's the difference between smaller specialty companies like Synapse or Criterion and a big company like Tri-Star. The smaller companies seak out the films they do and really like them- they WANT to do these titles justice and honor the filmmakers and keep them intimantly involved every step of the way. Hell, I even have a co-producer credit on the A BETTER PLACE DVD- the first time I've been given this credit (and the first time Don has ever given a filmmaker credit on one of the DVDs he's released), even though I pretty much had that same role on both MALLRATS and DOGMA.
