"Hell, you couldn't even enjoy Catherine Zeta-Jones-Douglas-"who's next?" in this, because she's all bloated and preggers....I mean, don't get me wrong, she is still the hottest pregnant lady on the planet, but hey, Catie, squirt the kid out, hit the treadmill and then get back with us, okay cupcakes?"
That was the thing that made me want to respond with a one-sentence reply.
But if you want to know, I thought TRAFFIC was brilliant on a whole bunch of levels. The DelToro character was so well realized, in very little words, both by the actor, and the director. I haven't seen that sort of understated character assertion in a long, long while. And I was impressed as well with Zeta Jones' character's progression from someone who is complicit in an "evil" arrangement, but has convienient blinders on, to someone who would do anything to defend the lifestyle she has grown accustomed to having, no matter what. I thought it was extremely well written, without being super-expository, like so many films on the subject seem to be.
And for whatever it may be worth, I was also jiving along very well with the color choices and tone set for different locations.
In any case, I think that the film was, in fact, worthy of all the praise it got, and certainly, even if one did not enjoy it, I'd assume one would at least extend a certain amount of credit to the acting, direction, and ambition of the film, without simply dismissing it as being the worst movie in history, and then complaining that the screen-hottie was too pregnant to get a woody over.
And beyond that all, Salma Hayek was in it, although briefly. Any movie that features her image in any way is at least made worthy by dint of that almost unreal beauty.
Except for WILD WILD WEST.
