Gah, will the low-fat faithful NEVER give up? The Atkins diet is safe. Safe. Safe. Safe. Low fat is implicated in high triglycerides which are a MAJOR risk factor for heart disease. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A SINGLE CASE OF KIDNEY FAILURE FROM LOW CARB. GOD FUCK!!!!
As it turns out, I don't use Atkins. I'm on another controlled carb plan called the "Carb Addicts" diet - we eat carbs once a day. To not bore y'all with details, Atkins is based on a fat-burning process that happens with restricted carb, while CAD is based on controlling insulin surges. Low carb isn't all Atkins, but he is a brother in low carb. My blood pressure, cholesterol, and triglycerides have all normalized. I've lost 23 pounds in 7 months.
If Mr. Fitness Columnist would think for a minute, he'd realize that the high-carb, low fat diet promulgated by the AMA is very different from what we evolved on. It's not good for us. And it's based on bad and very flimsy science-the "effects" of a high fat diet were based on rabbit studies. Guess what? Rabbits are vegetarians. The original tests were based on bogus science. Incidentally, low carb is EXACTLY what Kevin should be doing if he wants to lose weight. Notwithstanding the misinformation spread by misguided, and often naturally skinny, people.
I'll stop here as I could rant for many paragraphs. I stand with Dobbin - Atkins and other low carb plans are SAFE and EFFECTIVE. Don't trust the AMA, they have a creepy agenda.
